Great Things Seen & Heard

  • At a meeting: What’s the C word? (It’s Covid.)
  • Overheard: We’re cooking meth in Science class today!
  • Shakespearian drama in Grade 10 led to many uncomfortable questions, so the ELA teacher volunteered the Bio teacher for a sex demo! That came out wrong…
  • You know you’re under pressure when you return moldy jerky to the wrong store… and another wrong store… and then remembered you got it somewhere else!
  • After a close call with formaldehyde fumes, our Wellness Coach felt like a candy-striper wheeling snacks and juice down the hall to revive the students.
  • What kind of pickles did she eat, Sour Sis or Hot Mama?
  • Student insisted on standing in front of camera when we were filming a message for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
  • A specific student worked all the way through class for the first time in years!
  • According to the elder’s definition at the memorial fire, our Wellness Coach can be considered First Nations!
  • We think we’ve got it rough, but over at PVO, a teacher had to teach an 18-year-old to pee directly into the water!

Clips & Tips

With extra pressure taking its toll on all of us who work in schools, it’s time to take a step back and consider what’s really important. Taking care of yourself is first on the list, so be honest when you have needs to express. Focus on the essentials, live your life as fully as you can. Breathe.   • Next regular bi-weekly meeting with teachers and EA’s will be on October 25th since this week is Thanksgiving Monday, October 11th.
  • Two student teachers (for NM and JN) arrive on October 12th.
  • Career Fair at Grande Prairie Regional College (road trip) on October 13th.
  • Meeting with Indigenous Education Directors on October 13th.
  • Parent Society meeting online on October 14th at 6:00 PM.
  • Administration Association meeting in morning of October 19th.
  • Post-Secondary recruiters visit EWP in afternoon of October 20th.
  • EWP Safety Visit on October 21st at 11:00 AM.
  • Next PD Day on October 22nd (Librarian PD, common HPSD marking time).
  • Student work for Term One report card to be in on October 29th.
  • Student Teacher joins P.E. class on November 1st.
  • Photo retakes on November 2nd.
  • Marks to office on November 3rd.
  • Report cards emailed at end of day on November 9th.
  • Longer break from November 10th to November 14th. Whew.
  • We need to pick our Parent-Teacher Interview times for the following week.

Events This Week

  • Monday, October 4th: Sisters in Spirit Walk at 9:00 AM (students signed up).
  • Monday, October 4th: Jostens’ grad ring display at 11:00 or so (setting up at 10:30 AM).
  • Monday, October 4th: Hot Lunch is Ham and Cheddar Sandwich with yogurt.
  • Tuesday, October 5th: Our Counselling Consultant will be at EWP today.
  • Tuesday, October 5th: Meeting with divisional inclusion people at 9:00 AM.
  • Tuesday, October 5th: School photos setting up in the Students’ Lounge (alternate lunch space TBA).
  • Tuesday, October 5th: Hot Lunch is Sweet and Sour Meatballs with rice and vegetables.
  • Wednesday, October 6th: Career Coach meeting with administration.
  • Wednesday, October 6th: Hot Lunch is Dill Macaroni Salad with a sandwich.
  • Wednesday, October 6th: Renegades Football team leaves for Grande Prairie at 1:00 PM (JG going along).
  • Wednesday, October 6th: TR, EV, KE, and KJ meet with representative regarding AHS work experience at 1:00 PM.
  • Wednesday, October 6th: Wing it Wednesday – snack time after school to celebrate the first Wednesday of the month.
  • Thursday, October 7th: Hot lunch is Chicken Stir Fry with rice noodles.
  • Thursday, October 7th: Grad Committee Meeting at noon (that’s 12:00 noon) in Room 133.
  • Thursday, October 7th: Terry Fox Walk at 2:45 in the afternoon, JC Park.
  • Friday, October 8th: PD Day; HPSD has designated OCA marking in morning.
