Bits & Pieces

  • Reminder to all staff: please remember to pay for any goods and services you have received. That includes fundraising items you have taken home, for canteen lunches, for IA projects and services, for Fashion projects and services, and for Cosmo products.
  • We expect to distribute the timetable for Semester Two by the end of the day on Monday as student registration must surely be stable by now.
  • Please refer to supervision schedule for exams for those few exceptions when teachers have more than one exam at the same time, or when a student has a separate location.
  • Common PD Day, January 29th (EA’s have CRM training, cooks have PLC, teachers have indigenous training).
  • Second semester begins on February 1st.
  • Reminder for hall passes: only one student per class at a time, with specified colour TBA.
  • Common PD Day, February 3rd (local PD in morning including indigenous training at 10:00 AM, and division-wide collaboration in afternoon).
  • Teachers Convention on February 4th and 5th. Feel free to join online sessions from home or from school, depending on your internet service.
  • Next bi-weekly collaborative team meeting on February 8th after school in team locations.
  • All staff invited to a voluntary Discussion with the Board at 3:30 on February 10th (virtual) to discuss items brought up in the online survey. Invitation to be sent by email.
  • Family Day on February 15th.

  • Monday, January 25th: Bi-weekly meeting after school in our staff Google classroom (convention news, PD, discussions on Friday, cleaning, 2nd semester).

  • Tuesday, January 26th: Chemistry Diploma exam in Library.
  • Tuesday, January 26th: Marks for all Diploma courses must be in the office today.
  • Tuesday, January 26th: U of C virtual career fair (EV).
  • Wednesday, January 27th: All remaining marks must be in the office by 8:30 AM.
  • Wednesday, January 27th: Highlight any marks that are 25% or less.
  • Wednesday, January 27th: Hot lunch is not hot (sandwiches).
  • Thursday, January 28th: Make sure your final exams (with answer key) has been given to TP for filing.

  • Friday, January 29th: PD Day, 9:30 AM: Teachers meet in an online gathering room at 9:30 (link to follow by email) to discuss a few routines and principles that will keep us on the same page while we get the semester off to a good start. Please read (or listen to) the article listed in “Clips & Tips” before Friday.

Great Things Seen & Heard

  • When a class was working on assignments that hadn’t been completed by students while they were on-line, one student wrote “I’d rather be working on-line” instead of answers!
  • We had two pirates on staff last week; two left eye injuries!
  • One day of homework with a bit of squeezing brought one student’s average up by 13%!
  • One poor student thought he was going to pass out waiting for his girlfriend to arrive!
  • Students can stand next to the “this door unlocked” sign for 25 minutes and not notice!
  • A staff member’s new name is “Terry,” at least to one parent.
  • Another staff member was privileged to be warned by a student not to walk through his fart!
  • We saw a teacher wearing a tin hat while teaching!

Bits & Pieces

  • Timetable for Semester Two is nearly complete; five options are currently on the table depending on many variables including student registration.
  • If you haven’t done so, please submit a blank copy of final exams to administration before testing (email is fine).
  • Teachers administer their own exams unless several classes are scheduled at the same time.
  • After completion, submit all final exams (with answer key) to TP for filing.
  • Assessment Week will be for a variety of assessment types.
  • Biology Diploma exam on January 25th.
  • Next bi-weekly staff meeting after school will be on January 25th.
  • Chemistry Diploma exam on January 26th.
  • School awarded marks into office by January 26th for Diploma courses.
  • All Report Card marks into office by 8:30 AM on January 27th (highlight any marks at 25% or lower).

  • Clarification: when someone has been Covid positive, AHS approves return to school 10 days after first symptom and not 10 days after test. AHS gives us the date of safe return and we do not question it.

Great Things Seen & Heard

  • We were concerned about graffiti on the bathroom mirrors and it was a staff member!
  • We saw quite a display of Flames hockey gear set up in a temporary office!
  • We heard that a staff member’s husband went and picked of 300 pounds of coke… for a forge!
